Black and White Photography at after school photography club

This week’s theme at after school photography club is black and white photography. This theme is great to help the children focus on contrasting light and adding drama and emotion to their photographs. Our students worked solely on the black and white setting on their cameras. We looked at photographers such as Berenice Abbott, Dennis Stock & Sebastiao Salgado for inspiration.

Berenice Abbott inspired the children to find dark blacks and bright whites to create strong contrast. Dennis Stock inspired the children to think about where the light is coming from and capturing portraits. And Sebastiao Salgado inspired them to try photographing detailed close up images.
