We held workshops at Innovate Guildford in March this year, as well as running a photography competition for kids and teens. The innovations at the Science and Arts Festival were the theme for the photography competition. The kids and teens were asked to photograph their favourite one and upload it to Instagram using the hashtag #IG17photocomp to enter. The prize was an amazing Nikon P900 Bridge Camera, kindly donated by Nikon. We had some amazing entires and it was so hard to choose! Luckily we had the help of Guildford Mayor, Gordon Jackson to help us choose the winner.

After lots of discussion, we finally decided that the winner of the Innovate Guildford Photography Competition was 16 year old Laura. Laura’s photograph of the advanced and innovative satellite technology really caught our attention.

Here is the winning photo!

Laura cleverly adopted an unusual angle and perspective that captured the satellite in a really interesting way. One of the key themes of Innovate Guildford is that STEM (science technology engineering and maths) is becoming inextricably linked with the arts and design. And we think Laura’s winning photograph neatly encapsulates this concept.
She was so excited to win her new Nikon p900 Bridge camera, and we are excited to see the photographs she captures on it.
