The focus this week for our after school photography club students was how much a difference perspective makes in their photos. We encouraged the children to think outside the box when it came to composing their images.
Their only rule was to pretend they were an ant with a camera, so their photos had to be from an ant’s perspective. We asked the students where ants like to crawl, and encouraged them to put their cameras there to take a photograph.
By pretending to be an ant it forces a different perspective. If your camera was an ant, what would it see? It would be crawling through long grass, into small gaps, up walls, seeing the world from a tiny point of view! For example, looking up a tree, up close shot of a flower or petal, in the grass looking up, or on the playground floor!
In this session the students learned how to take photos from a different viewpoint, we encouraged them to use different settings on the camera. They continued to use the focus, noting that if the focus square goes red, they are too close and to try pointing the camera slightly up or taking a step back.
The after school photography club children did amazing this week changing their perspective to make creative compositions. The photographs they have taken are brilliant, take a look at some examples!
