Photography Course at Waddesdon Manor

A 3 day photography course at Waddesdon Manor with Sharp Shots Photo Club

We had a fantastic 3 day photography course at Waddesdon Manor teaching kids & teens how to use their camera, what the settings each do & how to use them to take awesome photos. The course was split into 3 days: Aperture, Shutter Speed & Composition. Lets start with day one!

Day 1: Aperture

Day 1 was all about aperture. We taught the students how changing their f/numbers can completely change the look and story behind a photograph. In the morning we focused on using low numbers or the flower setting for a soft background.

 

 

 

 

 

In the afternoon we focused on using large numbers or the landscape setting for full focus.

 

 

 

 

Not only is Waddesdon Manor the perfect place for a photography course, we were so lucky with the beautiful weather too! The kids and teens took some awesome aperture photos on day 1. Here are a few of the best:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 2: Shutter Speed

Day 2 was all about shutter speed. We taught the students about using different speeds to make really interesting, creative and technically impressive photographs. In the morning we focused on fast shutter speed, capturing bugs flying around and freezing water balloons mid-burst!

 

 

 

 

In the afternoon we were using slow shutter speeds to add movement to photographs. We practiced drawing with light in the classroom (which is always fun!) and making creative movement photos outside.

Day 3: Composition & Exhibition

By day 3 the kids and teens knew how to control their aperture and shutter speed, so the morning of day 3 was all about compositional skills. We talked about using different angles, the rule of thirds, finding shadows, reflections, patterns and shapes and using black and white and getting creative.

In the afternoon the kids and teens created collages with their favourite photographs from the 3 days and cut out photos from magazines and newspapers that inspired them. We then hung these up and created an exhibition for the parents to come and see!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

An amazing 3 day with a great group of 9-15yr olds. We have been so impressed with how well they have soaked up the information and used it to take fantastic photographs.
