The Sharp Shots teens intermediate online photography course is aimed at young people with some experience of photography as well as those looking to take their skills to the next level. Designed by professional photographers and run by experienced tutors who know how to engage and inspire young minds, the course is very much tailored around young minds and getting the best out of them.

Moving on from our beginners course which focuses on auto and scene settings, our intermediate online photography course for teens explores semi manual modes such as aperture priority, shutter priority and program mode. Ideal for those considering GCSE photography or looking to make a stepping-stone towards a specific qualification, students can expect to improve camera control, boost confidence both creatively and technically, explore different types of photography and begin to establish their own unique style of work.

Sharp Shots has been helping kids and teens in London and the UK develop a love of photography since 2015, through bespoke courses and workshops. Our mission is to help young people develop their technical and creative abilities, as well as the confidence to take great photographs. A world away from social media and selfie culture, course content is tailored around each young person’s own creative goals. It’s the perfect way to get them out and about, observing the world around them and maybe even seeing things in a new light.

Sharp Shots Founder, Lillie is a successful lifestyle and commercial photographer. She is regularly commissioned by high-profile clients such as The Royal Palaces and The Photographers Gallery,
and is currently writing a children’s photography book for publisher Harper Collins. Known for her enthusiastic and passionate approach, she is a natural teacher with over 15 year’s experience teaching photography to all ages from beginners to professional.

This lesson further explores aperture, this time in using it to photograph big, completely focused photographs like landscapes, architecture, events and big groups of people.

In this lesson we will be moving fast! By the end of the lesson you will be able to use the burst setting to take lots of photos in quick succession, capture fast moving action like cars and animals, and freeze water movement.

Building on the previous sessions shutter speed knowledge, in this lesson you will learn how to use shutter speed to blur movement. This fun and creative technique can be used to blur cars & people, panning and drawing with light.

This week is all about sensor sensitivity and ISO. You will learn what ISO is and how to use it to photograph in low light, like at events & museums.

FAQs

1. Does it matter what camera I use?

Absolutely not, we welcome all camera models and types. We use Nikon & Canon DSLR cameras on the course itself, but provide links to all camera manuals in the course material.

2. How long is the course?

  1. The course has 8 fun, inspirational learning modules that can be completed in as little as 3 weeks or as long as 8 weeks. You can decide how quickly and slowly you’d like to move through the material.

3. Do I receive feedback on my images during the course?

We have created a closed facebook group open to our online teen photography course members. We encourage our students to post their photos every week so we can offer feedback on their images, answer any questions they may have and help them progress with their image taking.

4. What is the layout of the course?

There is a video, course information packet, quiz and print out booklet for every course module. Our course is packed with photography tips and tricks!

5. What do I receive at the end when I have completed the course?

Hurrah, well done! You will receive a certificate of completion and will have a wonderful portfolio of work to show off to friends and family. Parents – you will also now have a great photographer in the family to record your family holidays and birthdays!

6. Can I use this course for the skills section of my Duke of Edinburgh Award?

Our online photography course for teens is only 8 weeks long and doesn’t meet the guidelines for your DofE skills section. However, we do run 12 week DofE photography skills courses online which meets all of the requirements. Click here to find out more

8. Must I complete the beginners course first?

The Intermediate online photography course is aimed at young people with some experience of photography, so the beginners course is a great foundation if you feel you are quite new to the skill. It is not a requirement, but definitely a great place to start.
