Course: Summer at the Seaside

Date: Thursday 16th August

Time: 10.30 – 13:00

Ages: 7-11

Fee: £39 (Compact camera hire available for an additional £5)

Summer is always fun at the seaside, and today’s class is focused on capturing it! Our students will learn how their camera makes a photograph and understand which settings will influence the outcome of their images. We will use the aperture through the close-up setting to capture our favourite rocks and crabs along the shore, and use shutter speed through the action setting to capture the sea gulls flying and freeze the frothy sea.  We will spend the majority of the class outdoors photographing the beautiful Brighton shoreline together, looking for inspiring compositions and fun colourful photographs. Our students will finish today’s class with a great portfolio of seaside images.

Yellowave Beach Sports Venue opened in March 2007. It was set up by Katie Mintram, who as a beach volleyball player was determined to re-create the beachlifestyle she’d experienced after living in Huntington Beach, California and Manly Beach, Australia.

The workshop room offers an open, light and airy space and has uninterrupted sea views. Floor to ceiling windows open up onto an outside deck overlooking the volleyball courts.

Yellowave’s Barefoot Cafe has great food and a relaxing laid-back

atmosphere. It has a lovely decked area looking south west across the volleyball courts to the Brighton Pier. There’s also a free sandy play area for kids with a great playground only a few yards away.

  • Drop off is on Madeira Drive, immediately outside Yellowave entrance.
  • Parking can be found at Madeira Drive (pay and display) or Blackrock car park (750 m)
  • Brighton Train Station is a 30 min walk.
  • Regular buses stop at the end of Madeira Drive.
